Day Haul

Shift tracker for gig drivers · Android

Your best day by the hour
is not your best day by the kilometre.

Most trackers give you one number and let you assume it is the whole story. Day Haul records the shift itself — every kilometre, every wait — and then tells you what the hours paid and what the distance paid, after fuel. The two rarely agree, and the gap is where the money is.

One week, ranked two ways

Seven worked days, best net per hour first.

Example week. In the app these are your own days, and the ranking updates as you enter what you were paid.

    A shift, start to stop.

    What it records

Press start. It does the rest until you press stop.

    • It keeps recording with the screen off.

A foreground service holds the shift while you drive, lock the phone, or swipe the app away. If you forget to stop, it asks — and if you never answer, it ends the shift at your last real movement rather than at midnight.

    • It tells driving from waiting on its own.

Movement is classified as you go, and a stop only counts as waiting once it outlasts a traffic light. You get the split without tagging anything by hand.

    • It draws the route you actually took.

Every shift keeps its own map, so a distance you doubt is a thing you can look at instead of a number you have to trust.

    • It takes the shift you forgot to record.

Type the hours in afterwards. Hand-entered shifts are marked as such and are the only ones you can edit — what the GPS recorded stays what the GPS recorded.

    The ledger

Gross is not what you earned.

Tell Day Haul your vehicle once — litres per 100 km and the price you pay, or kWh and the price per kWh — and every shift carries its own cost. The app subtracts it where it belongs and never quietly rounds the difference away.

Enter what each platform paid you, split into base, tips and incentives. A day, a week, a month and a year are all netted by the same rule: the figures are added up first and the rate is worked out once, so no number here is an average of averages.

Unknown is never zero. A day you have not entered earnings for reads —, not 0.00, and it stays out of every ranking until you fill it in.

What makes a shift worth working

None of this is a rule — it depends on your city, your platform and your vehicle. It is what the numbers tend to show, and where in the app you can check whether it is true for you.

    • Judge a day by two rates, never one.

A long motorway shift can top the hourly table and still hand most of it back at the pump. A short dense shift often keeps far more of what it earns.

    • Attack the waiting before the driving.

Unpaid standing time is usually the biggest single block you can actually change — a different pickup zone, a different hour, a different restaurant. Cutting an hour of waiting raises your hourly rate more than driving an extra hour does.

Day screen → Long waits, longest first

    • Find out which weekday is really yours.

Most drivers are surprised at least once. Pooled over every settled day, the weekday that feels busiest is often not the one that pays best per hour.

      Stats → By weekday

    • Price the vehicle before you price the shift.

Fuel is the cost that moves with every kilometre, and the one drivers most often leave out. With the consumption and price entered once, every shift nets itself.

Menu → Manage vehicles, then any fill-up or charge

    • Enter your earnings the same day.

A week of blank days is a week the app cannot rank and you cannot compare. It takes about twenty seconds per platform.

Shifts list → Add earnings on the day

    • Set a target you can see falling behind.

A goal over a stretch of days shows the daily rate you now need, not just the total left. Knowing on a Wednesday is worth more than knowing on a Sunday.

    Where your data lives

On your phone. That is the whole answer.

    • No account. Install it and press start. There is nothing to sign up for.
    • No cloud. Your shifts, earnings and routes are in a database on the device. Nothing is uploaded, because there is nowhere to upload it to.
    • No ads, no tracking. Nothing in the app is paid for with your attention or your data.
    • You can take it all with you. Export a day or a shift as JSON, CSV or GPX, or write the entire database to one backup file and load it back on another phone.

    Permissions it asks for
Location while in use, and notifications. A shift keeps recording with the screen locked because a foreground service holds it — which is the notification Android shows you while it runs. It asks when you first press start, and explains each one. It does not ask for background location.
    Battery
One fix every three seconds while a shift is running, and nothing at all when no shift is running.
    Languages and units
English. Kilometres or miles, and your own currency, both set in Settings.
